Poker Hands Ranking Order
Poker hands are always five cards. The player having the highest ranked hand is the winner in the poker game. The highest card (not in common) also known as the kicker determines the winner if the poker hands remain tied. There are many categories such as straight, flush, full house etc. Check out the list of standard poker hands ranked from highest to lowest.

It is any connecting straight cards of the same suit like 9-8-7-6-5 whereas a royal flush is A-K-Q-J-10, all of the same suit. A royal flush is considered as an unbeatable hand. The highest rank at the top of the sequence wins in the event of a tie.
Four of a kind:
It consists of four cards of the same ranking like 5-5-5-5-K. Also known as Quads, the one side card like ‘K’ here is known as the kicker. The highest four of a kind wins in the event of a tie. When the players have the same four of a kind in community card games, the highest fifth card wins.

It is the next highest ranking poker hand after four-of-a-kind and is a three-of-a-kind with by a pair. The player with the highest three matching cards win the pot in the event of a tie. When the players have the same three matching cards in a community card game, the biggest value of the two matching cards wins.
Flush:
It consists of five cards all of the same suit. The player holding the highest ranked card wins in the event of a tie. The 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th highest cards can be used to break the tie if required. The pot is split if all five cards are of the same ranks.

When you have a pair in hand like 5-5, matched with another 5 on the board. It is also known as a set. The highest ranking three of a kind wins in the event of a tie. The highest side card wins if the player has the same three of a kind or if required the 2nd highest while playing community card games.
Two pair:
It is a pair like 5-5 or 7-7 and let's say the board is 8-8-9, then you have two pairs. The highest pair wins in the event of a tie. The second highest pair wins if players have the same highest pair and the highest side card wins if both players have two identical pairs.
One pair:
As the name suggests, it is a single pair. For example, you have 7-7 or 8-9 and a board of 8-J-K for a pair of 8. The highest pair wins in the event of a tie.
